WE MUST HOLD FAST TO GOD From Metropolitan Archbishop Paul, S.S.B. To the flock entrusted into my care: payer, virtue, faithfulness to the Commandments, and practice of the Beatitudes, for they are pleasing to God and assist in making us Godlike and pleasing to God 1

WHERE FEW GO TO CONFESSION, IT IS BECAUSE THEY DO NOT PAY ATTENTION TO THEIR SPIRITUAL STATUS. WHERE MANY GO TO CONFESSION, IT IS BECAUSE THEY DO PAY ATTENTION TO THEIR SPIRITUAL STATUS. 1a

No one may share the Eucharist with us unless he believes that what we teach is true, unless he is washed in the regenerating waters of Baptism for the remission of his sins, and unless he lives in accordance with the principles given us by Christ. ~ Saint Justin, Martyr ~ One who is pro-abortion, sometimes termed pro-choice, is not living in accordance with the principles 1b

Senator Kerry, a Roman Catholic, is pro-abortion, has voted for all types of abortion, has voted against any measure which would in any manner restrict abortion, has flatly declared the teachings of the Church, and therefore the teachings of God, against abortion will have no effect on his pro-abortion stance, and that if elected president he will appoint only pro-abortionists to the federal bench, including and especially the United States Supreme Court. 1d

THE "HURRICANE" PRAYER 8a

THE GUIDANCE OF THE CHURCH BY THE HOLY SPIRIT MUST NOT BE ABANDONED From the earliest of times, those who have really desired to attain eternal union with God in heaven have wanted to know what they must do and become to accomplish that union. 9

PRAYER KNOCKS, FASTING OBTAINS, MERCY RECEIVES From a sermon by Saint Peter Chrysologus, bishop Prayer knocks, fasting obtains, mercy receives. There are three things, my brethren, by which faith stands firm, devotion remains constant, and virtue endures. 16

ABORTIONISTS ARE TERRORIST And all who do not oppose abortion, support terrorism. A candidate’s position abortion is indicative of their interest in you. Abortionist are nothing more than terrorist who attack the least powerful human beings, the least able to defend themselves - unborn babies. No one can distinguish any differences between abortionists and terrorist, for there are none. 16a

MORNING OFFERING AND PRAYER 17

UNION WITH GOD IS THE ONLY AND THE EVERYTHING The Holy Spirit constantly battles for our salvation. His battle is against Satan, Satan’s followers, Satanic influence, and the inclinations of our fallen human nature. God the Father is our creator. He made us and set the standards for our union with Him. God the Son is our Redeemer. He offered Himself as the Sacrifice for mankind's salvation, and provides Himself as spiritual food and sustenance, solely that we may each attain that union with God. And God the Holy Spirit, the Paraclete, is our Advocate. He actively engages against evil on our behalf and actively assists us in that battle, and actively provides us with access to holiness, solely that we may each attain that union with God. 20

THE THEOLOGICAL PRINCIPLE OF PRIMACY OF CONSCIENCE DOES NOT ALLOW SIN Today, primacy of conscience is being used to justify every aberration imaginable 22

WHY DO YOUR BEST? But why should we always do our best - not just try to do, but actually do it? Because the power of God is constantly at work within us, and the closer we draw to God, the more we grow in perfection in ourselves and our work. 26

THANKING GOD IN LOVE We have so much to be thankful for it is impossible for us to begin to comprehend, and we very often do not - do not comprehend and do not thank. When you do not obtain, secure, or otherwise receive that which is your temporal focus, you may think you do not have much for which to be thankful, but you do. You are a member of the True Church, which means you are part of the Body of Christ 29

FAITHFULNESS TO THE KING REQUIRES FAITHFULNESS TO THE TRUTH If you do not believe Jesus Christ is God, Lord and Savior, and if you do not follow the Way taught by Him, you can not be a Christian. Christians can not dilute or water down the Divine Truth which we follow as Dogma, nor can Christians accept any other religion as being good in any measure - except that some other religions do teach some good things, but in the main they teach error and therefore are unacceptable. There is a great movement towards honoring other religions 29a

~ WE MUST HOLD FAST TO GOD ~

From Metropolitan Archbishop Paul, S.S.B.
To the flock entrusted into my care:

We must hold fast to God. Though the world at times seems to be moving towards Godliness, and at times seems to be falling into the most horrible depths of corruption and Hell, and we really can not make sense of it, we must hold fast to God, to the virtues of Faith, Hope, and Charity (Agape Love). For though we may be inclined to despair of the salvation of many of those whom we love, and even question the probability or possibility of our own salvation, we must remember and realize, fully realize, that as much as we desire both to avoid eternal horror, and to obtain eternal happiness, and to love God with the same Divine Love with which He loves us, the desire of each Person of the Blessed Trinity, of God, that this be so for us and for each person, is far greater than our desires.

We admonish ourselves and others not for the sake of admonition, but that each one may correct that which is not Godlike in ourselves and themselves, for removing that which is not Godlike is one of the avenues to obtaining the Godlike and making it part of our essence.

Likewise, we encourage payer, virtue, faithfulness to the Commandments, and practice of the Beatitudes, for they are pleasing to God and assist in making us Godlike and pleasing to God.

It is difficult when your child, parent, sibling, spouse, friend, or anyone for whom you care, overtly rejects God and God’s will, and engages in sin in an active and intentional manner. When one for whom we care engages in the common lapses from holiness, this is difficult for us to endure. But when those whom we love engage in the intentional rejection of a holy life and embracing of a life we know really is evil, it fills us with confusion as to what our relationship should be with the sinner and how to assist the sinner to accept a life of holiness.

The key is in acknowledging that the person is a sinner and to avoid making excuses for them, for in avoiding acknowledging the sin or in making excuses for them, we avoid the truth. When truth is absent, there can be no rectification of an evil or evil situation.

This does not mean we badger the sinner, for this too normally is counter productive. But just as we can not begin to correct the sin in ourselves until we acknowledge it, so too can the sin in those whom we love not be begun to be removed until it is recognized and acknowledged. Just as a bandage can not be placed on a wound to staunch the flow of blood until the existence of the wound is acknowledged and the wound located, so too will there be no prayers for correction of the sin until the sin is acknowledged and found. Grace will bleed out from the sinner until there is no Divine life left in them.

The only means of applying a spiritual bandage and the only means of providing a spiritual infusion is prayerful good example. If we excuse the sin, then we are not providing good example. If we do not pray, incessantly, then we are not seeking the assistance of the only One who has the ability to assist us and the one in need.

If we wish those who need spiritual help to accept that help, we must actively participate in their reception of that assistance. We must practice our Faith in the most exemplary manner possible. We do not do this by dragging our selves to Church and getting out as quickly as possible, or by cutting moral corners. We must obtain the joy associated with worship of God and joyfully and happily follow moral propriety, for our own sakes and as a means of giving good example to the other sinners, especially those for whom we fear salvation may be lost.

We must curtail our participation in delights of the flesh - a good means is by fasting and taking advantage of the adverse situations about which we can do nothing, and offering the sufferings associated with those adverse situations and accepting those adverse situations without complaint, so that we in a sense become martyrs and participate to an extent in the martyrdom of those who have won the red robe.

If we are blessed with martyrdom, or a portion of it, we must avoid the, “Look at how I am suffering,” display which many are inclined to act in such situations. The suffering can be acknowledged, but it must be born as it was born by Christ, and offered united with His sufferings.

But above all one must engage prayer and humble good example, remembering Saint Monica and Saint Augustine, and our Saviour and the Good Thief.

+ Paul, S.S.B.

Where few go to Confession, it is
because they do not pay attention to their spiritual status.
Where many go to Confession, it is because they do pay
attention to their spiritual status.

And he sent his servants to call them that were invited to the marriage: and they would not come. Again he sent other servants, saying: Tell them that were invited, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my beeves and fatlings are killed, and all things are ready. Come ye to the marriage. But they neglected and went their ways, one to his farm and another to his merchandise. And the rest laid hands on his servants and, having treated them contumeliously, put them to death.

Usually discussions of this parable focus on the Israelites having rejected Jesus Christ as the Messiah thereby losing their preferred status, and also on Gentiles being received and welcomed by God with those few of the former chosen people who accepted the Messiah.

But here we look at the servants who delivered their Lord’s message.

Unfortunately, people continue to ignore God’s direction, whether delivered by God Himself or by His Priests. People continue to have sexual relations with out benefit of marriage, and even advertising in print, and on radio and TV, refers to one’s “partner” instead of to one’s spouse - even in bedding mattress commercials. Great numbers of people ignore the Church’s teachings, which is Christ’s teachings, in their use of artificial contraceptives, their obtaining abortions, and in their refusal to acknowledge or even contemplate their sins.

And our Lord’s Priests, Nuns, Brothers and other religious, are ridiculed, attacked, and often live with neither financial support nor appreciation of their efforts to assist people into a proper relationship with God. They often are the subject of gossip, including erroneous presumptions about their personal lives, and often experience lack of common courtesy not to mention decency and respect.

Your Priests and religious pray for you every day - formal prayers which intentionally include you, not just a quick prayerful thought; yet most people rarely really pray and even more rarely pray for the Priests and religious who tend to their needs.

In part this is due to adoption of very bad religious texts, religion course materials, and teaching methods, by several Church Jurisdictions during the period from the late 1960’s to the present time. But mainly it is due to a shift in the focus of most people from pleasing God to pleasing themselves. In this pursuit of pleasing themselves, great numbers of parents have abandoned their duties to those of their children whom they actually allowed to be conceived and to live. In pursuit of pleasing themselves, great numbers of people have decided they will ignore any of God’s teachings which interfere with obtaining that which they desire in this world - which means they ignore those whom God has sent to them to serve them, His Priests and religious. So, even where the Church has maintained good teaching materials and methods, and good example, God is mostly ignored by great numbers of people.

And so we find many of those who were invited to take the place of the Israelites, also reject the Messiah. They refuse to put on the new clothes, the new man, and they too do not receive the wedding banquet; they are expelled from union with God.

Truly it is difficult for a rich man to pass through the eye of the needle. It also is difficult for those who desire that which the rich man has, to pass through the eye of the needle.

We do not find people in poor countries putting worldly things ahead of God to the extent we see it happening in richer countries. Even the poor in richer countries generally ignore God’s wishes when God’s wishes interfere with worldly desires. But countries which have financial insecurity as a part of life, generally have more religious people. Why? Because they comprehend the need to rely on God.

In richer countries people have learned to think they can rely on themselves for everything they need, or that they can get what they want from some other human being. This is because in the richer countries, people see more material things, and seek them, to the exclusion of spiritual things. Material things are attainable in richer countries, so they are sought, and spiritual things ignored. In poorer countries, material things often are not attainable, and therefore are not sought. This allows a greater focus on spiritual things, which are attainable by everyone.

One additional observation in closing. Participation in the Sacrament of Absolution, Confession, is an indicator of the holiness of a people. Where few go to Confession, it is because they do not pay attention to their spiritual status. Where many go to Confession, it is because they do pay attention to their spiritual status.

Saint Matthew

No one may share the Eucharist with us unless he believes that what we teach is true,
unless he is washed in the regenerating waters of Baptism for the remission of his sins,
and unless he lives in accordance with the principles given us by Christ.

~ Saint Justin, Martyr ~

One who is pro-abortion, sometimes termed pro-choice, is not living in accordance with the principles given us by Christ, and therefore must not be allowed to receive the Sacred Eucharist. One who purports to be anti-abortion, but allows abortions under certain circumstances or who states that to deny abortion would be to deny others their rights and therefore abortions must be allowed, does not follow the beliefs which that one purports to possess and therefore does not live in accordance with the principles given us by Christ. Such persons therefore must not be allowed to receive the Sacred Eucharist.

Giving a pro-abortion politician or any other pro-abortion person Holy Communion, is exactly the same as giving a serial killer a loaded automatic gun and a big knife and turning him/her loose in a nursery. It is placing Satan in the Candy Store and telling him to have fun. It is forcing Christ physically present as the Eucharist, into the presence of Satan who is present in conjunction with the person who is unworthily receiving the Sacred Eucharist.

If the leader of your country were to come to your home to visit, nominal politeness requires you at least clean off one chair upon which he may rest. When a pro-abortionist, who by definition is in a state of mortal sin, whose soul contains not a glimmer of the Divine Energies or Essence but is dead, receives the Sacred Eucharist, it is worse than bringing the leader of your country into a sewer filled with the most foul of materials, smells, germs, and filth.

In the Roman Catholic Church there is a great debate regarding reception of the Sacred Eucharist by pro- abortion politicians. There are many Roman Catholic Bishops and Priests who hold the position that pro-abortion politicians must be allowed to receive the Sacred Eucharist. The term they most often use is to “take Communion” or to “take Holy Communion”.

Such Bishops and Priests would rather force God into a sewer, than take even a minor chance of offending the followers of Satan and Satan. They are unworthy of the office with which they have been entrusted and are themselves anathema, devoid of the Life of Christ, and must not be allowed to receive the Sacred Eucharist for they themselves, in forcing Christ into the sewer of the abortionist's soul, do not live in accordance with the principles given us by Christ.

No one has the right to receive the Sacred Eucharist. It is a privilege granted to those who are in a state of Grace, who possess the Essence of God in at least some measure; who live in accordance with the principles given to us by Christ.

And the proper term for reference to this receipt of the Sacred Eucharist is not to “take Communion” or to “take Holy Communion”, for no one has the right to take the Sacred Eucharist. The Roman Catholic practice of receiving the Sacred Eucharist in the hand has lead to the perception of taking the Sacred Eucharist. But the recipient of the Sacred Eucharist receives it from the Priest. If the recipient takes it from the Priest, then the recipient has usurped the authority to give the Sacred Eucharist, and that human authority resides with the Priest alone.

THE HOLY SPIRIT RENEWS US IN BAPTISM
From the treatise On the Trinity by Didymus of Alexandria

God is a consuming fire

The Holy Spirit renews us in baptism through his godhead, which he shares with the Father and the Son. Finding us in a state of deformity, the Spirit restores our original beauty and fills us with his grace, leaving no room for anything unworthy of our love. The Spirit frees us from sin and death, and changes us from the earthly men we were, men of dust and ashes, into spiritual men, sharers in the divine glory, sons and heirs of God the Father who bear a likeness to the Son and are his coheirs and brothers, destined to reign with him and to share his glory. In place of earth the Spirit reopens heaven to us and gladly admits us into paradise, giving us even now greater honor than the angels, and by the holy waters of baptism extinguishing the unquenchable fires of hell.

We men are conceived twice: to the human body we owe our first conception, to the divine Spirit, our second. John says: To all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God. These were born not by human generation, not by the desire of the flesh, not by the will of man, but of God. All who believed in Christ, he says, received power to become children of God, that is, of the Holy Spirit, and to gain kinship with God. To show that their parent was God the Holy Spirit, he adds these words of Christ: I give you this solemn warning, that without being born of water and the Spirit, no one can enter the kingdom of God.

Visibly, through the ministry of priests, the font gives symbolic birth to our visible bodies. Invisibly, through the ministry of angels, the Spirit of God, whom even the mind's eye cannot see, baptizes into himself both our souls and bodies, giving them a new birth.

Speaking quite literally, and also in harmony with the words of water and the Spirit, John the Baptist says of Christ: He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. Since we are only vessels of clay, we must first be cleansed in water and then hardened by spiritual fire -- for God is a consuming fire. We need the Holy Spirit to perfect and renew us, for spiritual fire can cleanse us, and spiritual water can recast us as in a furnace and make us into new men.

WHAT IF DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE SENATOR KERRY
WERE TO GO TO HELL BECAUSE WE, OR SOME OF US, FAILED TO PRAY
FOR HIM?

Senator Kerry, a Roman Catholic, is pro-abortion, has voted for all types of abortion, has voted against any measure which would in any manner restrict abortion, has flatly declared the teachings of the Church, and therefore the teachings of God, against abortion, will have no effect on his pro-abortion stance, and that if elected president he will appoint only pro-abortionists to the federal bench, including and especially the United States Supreme Court.

Senator Kerry, therefore, can not receive Holy Communion, has not the right to receive the Sacred Body and Blood of Christ, is unable to receive any of the Sacraments except absolution in true repentance, and is unable to even receive Grace for he has knowingly and intentionally rejected God and severed himself from the source of all Grace. Anyone who knowingly allows him to receive the Sacred Eucharist while he is in this condition commits the most grievous of sins.

If Senator Kerry dies in this condition he is in grievous danger of eternal damnation. If he dies in this condition because we fail to pray for him, because we fail to attempt to persuade him of his error, because we fail to do or to attempt to do all we can to lead Senator Kerry back to union with Our Saviour, then we have failed God in attempting an important task, which attempt is within our abilities.

We may not be successful in this endeavor, but if we do not attempt it, how can we be justified in Christ? Not just for the sake of Senator Kerry are we obligated to attempt to bring him back into union with God, but also for the sake of those millions of babies who would not be killed if the Senator were to become pro-life.

The Senator’s immortal soul is a prize sought by both Satan and by God. And the lives of millions of babies, the betterment of humanity, and potential for assisting in the salvation of millions of persons through the births of those babies and their lives is also a prize sought by God and opposed by Satan.

Senator Kerry appears to be an intelligent and educated person. He proclaims and professes to be Roman Catholic. He therefore apparently is fully aware of God’s historical and unchanging opposition to and prohibition against killing unborn children in any manner, and particularly through abortion.

If he is actually Roman Catholic, then he believes abortion is morally wrong, and that any and all who assist in abortion through passage of laws or actual performance, is severed from the Body of Christ and condemned to eternal damnation in hell. If he is Roman Catholic, then Senator Kerry believes he is condemned to hell for his pro-abortion position and activities. But he also is aware of and believes he can receive absolution and forgiveness for these sins if he but seeks Confession and absolution in true repentance.

Is it possible Senator Kerry desires to attain what ever is attainable in this temporary world, a world which for him will end in a few years, and as the price for attaining those very temporary things, experience eternal separation from God, eternal lack of happiness, eternal pain and suffering, eternal unhappiness, eternal hell? This would appear to be spiritual insanity.

If the Senator were physically, medically insane, would we not seek proper medical attention for him, even though he resisted such assistance? Should we not also encourage him to obtain spiritual help to cure his spiritual insanity?

When one is medically insane, they are not responsible for their actions. But one who is spiritually insane is exercising his free will to oppose God, and he is responsible for his actions.

The medication of prayer must be continually attempted to cure Senator Kerry. It probably is too late for prayer to assist Satan, but it may not be too late for it to assist the Senator.

POLICE ABUSE IS VERY MUCH ALIVE IN THE U.S.A.

Holy Innocents Orthodox Church was desecrated by the Harahan, Louisiana, police department on or about the 28th day of January, 2004, when Officer J. Wyat, accompanied by several other Harahan police officers, entered the Church bearing arms, wearing caps, and smoking cigarettes, claiming to be searching for an alleged criminal named Eric.

The desecration occurred while Archbishop Paul was preparing for the next day’s liturgies. The officers beat on the Church door (they did not knock, but struck the door with great force) at approximately 7:40 PM. Archbishop Paul answered the door asking if he could be of assistance, not realizing the individuals were police officers since the evening was dark. Officer Wyat said, “Are you Eric!,” and was informed by Archbishop Paul, “There is no one here named Eric.”

“Where is he,” demanded one of the officers.

“I do not think I know anyone named Eric,” Archbishop Paul responded.

Since the water was running in the sink (remember, the Archbishop had been preparing for the next day’s liturgies, including Divine Liturgy), Archbishop Paul said, “Please wait there (pointing to the sidewalk outside the Church, the officers having not yet entered the Church); I have water running in the sanctorum and I have to turn the water off."

Archbishop Paul returned to within the Iconostat and turned off the water running in the sink, and when he again entered the body of the Church he saw the police officers had entered the Church, wearing their guns, some wearing hats or caps, and and at least one of them smoking a cigarette. It was then that the Archbishop realized these were police officers. A female police officer came up to the Iconostat and begin to open open of the doors and to step to enter the Sanctuary. The Archbishop said in loud voice, “Women are not allowed to enter past the Iconostat. You can not go in there - it is forbidden. It is a desecration. And you all have to get rid of your cigarettes; and guns and hats are not allowed in here. This is a Church.”

The woman officer stopped. Officer Wyat moved to within inches of the Archbishop, and using his body and superior weight, pushed the Archbishop backwards. The Archbishop moved his hand to between himself and Officer Wyat, at which time Officer Wyat said, “Touch me and I will hurt you and you will be under arrest.”

One of the officers, a male, then unholstered his handgun and looked up at the loft.

The Archbishop said, “Get out of here. This is a Church and you are desecrating it. You have no right to be in here. You are not Orthodox and you are not Catholic otherwise you would know how to act in here. The Sacred Eucharist is present, and you have to act properly.”

The officer who had drawn his gun said, “If you are a church where is your occupational license.” (Note: Constitutionally, an occupational license can not be required for a Church in the U.S.A.)

Archbisop Paul said, “I am ordering you to leave. If you want to arrest me, do it, and if I do not die from heart problems, I will sue the hell out of each of you. Get out.”

Another officer, a detective in regular clothing with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, had remained outside. He called to the Harahan police officers to leave the Church, and they did.

The Jefferson Parish detective was properly polite and respectful, though he did not apologize for the actions of his Harahan counterparts. He explained they were looking for a suspect named Eric - whom they eventually discovered had a friend who lived further down the street.

Legally, the entry of the police officers into the Church was an illegal entry, and their actions constitute an illegal search, for they had been instructed to remain outside. It also constitutes criminal as well as civil trespass. Officer Wyat’s pushing Archbishop Paul legally constitutes criminal assault and criminal battery, as well as intentional civil tort. These, combined with the threats made by Officer Wyat to Archbishop Paul, constitute malfeasance.

More important, what the police officers did were mortal sins.

Filing a compliant, charges, or suit, would be useless, for the police officers can reasonably be presumed to deny any wrongdoing if such are filed. Since the officers were hired by the police chief, it is reasonable to presume they are of a demeanor and character which meet his approval, so no redress can be expected from the police chief. The matter is in God’s capable hands.

Such matters must, however, be made public; for we are entering into a time when our ability to publicly practice the true religion is being destroyed by the various branches of government and the prevalence of immoral and irreligious government personnel and officials. If we are aware of this coming evil, we will be better prepared to meet it in a manner which not only does not violate Christ's teachings, but which also follows His teachings, which come from the Father.

“There seems to be little to distinguish the Roman soldiers who were the police officers of the time of Christ, the police officers of today, and the military police who governed the Iraq military prisons under the United States lead coalition.” + Paul

UNITY IN CHRIST IS BECAUSE OF CHRIST
From a sermon by Blessed Isaac of Stella, abbot.

Just as the head and body of a man form one single man, so the Son of the Virgin and those he has chosen to be his members form a single man and the one Son of Man. Christ is whole and entire, head and body, say the Scriptures, since all the members form one body, which with its head is one Son of Man, and he with the Son of God is one Son of God, who himself with God is one God. Therefore the whole body with its head is Son of Man, Son of God, and God. This is the explanation of the Lord's words: Father, I desire that as you and I are one, so they may be one with us.

And so, according to this well-known reading of Scripture, neither the body without the head, nor the head without the body, nor the head and body without God make the whole Christ. When all are united with God they become one God. The Son of God is one with God by nature; the Son of Man is one with him in his person; we, his body, are one with him sacramentally. Consequently those who by faith are spiritual members of Christ can truly say that they are what he is: the Son of God and God himself. But what Christ is by his nature we are as his partners; what he is of himself in all fullness, we are as participants. Finally, what the Son of God is by generation, his members are by adoption, according to the text: As sons you have received the Spirit of adoption, enabling you to cry, Abba, Father.

Through his Spirit, he gave men the power to become sons of God, so that all those he has chosen might be taught by the firstborn among many brothers to say: Our Father, who are in heaven. Again he says elsewhere: I ascend to my Father and to your Father.

By the Spirit, from the womb of the Virgin, was born our head, the Son of Man; and by the same Spirit, in the waters of baptism, we are reborn as his body and as sons of God. And just as he was born without any sin; so we are reborn in the forgiveness of all our sins. As on the cross he bore the sum total of the whole body's sins in his own physical body, so he gave his members the grace of rebirth in order that no sin might be imputed to his mystical body. It is written: Blessed is the man to whom the Lord imputes no sin. The blessed man of this text is undoubtedly Christ, who forgives sins insofar as God is his head. Insofar as this man is the head of the body, no sin is forgiven him. But insofar as the body that belongs to this head consists of many members, sin is not imputed to it.

Just in himself, it is he who justifies himself. He alone is both Savior and saved. In his own body on the cross he bore what he had washed from his body by the waters of baptism. Bringing salvation through wood and through water, he is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world which he took upon himself. Himself a priest, he offers himself as sacrifice to God, and he himself is God. Thus, through his own self, the Son is reconciled to himself as God, as well as to the Father and to the Holy Spirit.

THE GUIDANCE OF THE CHURCH BY THE HOLY SPIRIT MUST NOT BE ABANDONED

From the earliest of times, those who have really desired to attain eternal union with God in heaven have wanted to know what they must do and become to accomplish that union. That desire is expressed in part the Psalm which states, “Hear, O Lord, my voice with which I have cried to Thee: my heart hath said to Thee, I have sought Thy face; Thy face, O Lord, I will seek: turn not away Thy face from me.” (Ps. 26:7-9)

Jesus Himself voiced a prayer to His Father on our behalf, expressing the same concept, when he prayed, “Father, while I was with them I kept them whom Thou gavest Me, but now I come to Thee: I pray not that Thou shouldst take them out of the world, but that Thou shouldst keep them from evil.” (John 17:12,13,15) And then He sent the Holy Spirit to guide the Church.

We need not concern ourselves about being abandoned by the Holy Spirit, for He will not abandon us, but we must be very concerned about the abandonment of the Holy Spirit by parts of the Church, especially by parts of the human leadership of the Church.

That is why the guidance of the Church through dogma, through revealed truth, is through councils of the Church, with dogma or truths being determined in true Ecumenical Councils of the entire Church. When the Church meets in such Councils, the Council itself makes the dogmatic promulgation under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. That removes the potential for one person or a small group of persons presenting their own desires as dogmatic truth, for the differences of personal opinions are as varied as the members of each Council, and it requires the guidance of God for the members to agree.

But these Councils of the Church do not present anything new. They only search out that which has already been presented in Apostolic teachings, in the Old and New Testaments. That is why there has been very little which has been uncovered since the time of the Early Fathers of the Church, for that which has been revealed was studied in depth by these most holy of people and tested and tried to determine their truth in the Ecumenical Councils of the Church.

What we must fear is abandonment of Church Dogma, watering it down, replacement of it with supposedly newly determined truths, and its corruption. God does not change for one of the attributes of God is that He does not change; and His dogma therefore does not change.

In the early days of the Church there were overt attempts to subvert dogma. As an example, there were challenges as to Christ’s dual nature, Divine and human. These challenges were overcome by showing the necessity that He be both True God and True Man.

We can overcome all attempts to introduce falsehood as dogma simply by comparing that which is proposed, with that which is established. If the proposal is in conformity with that which is established, it can be explored, but if it contradicts that which is established, it is false.

We must also fear the introduction of confusion into the Church, particularly in worship. Worship of God should be just that, worship. Worship is not a feel good social event or gathering, though focused worship does make one feel good in certain ways, and it is often done in groups which have some form of social interaction. But worship of God is focused on God, for He is the one being worshiped. If the focus is on the presiding officials of the worship, then the worship is of the presiding officials and not of God. If the focus is on the congregation, then the congregation is being worshiped, and not God.

Because of this it is best if there is continuity in worship, so that a person can go from place to place and be certain that the form of worship will be familiar, with only slight variations according to local customs.

The traditions of worship and prayer, and their traditional forms, were established under the guidance of the Holy Spirit and have served the Church very well for some two thousand years. They have born good fruit in a multitude of cultures and climates: in societies with no slavery and with severe slavery, in those with no racial bias and those with extreme racial bias, in the homes and gatherings of the rich and the homes and gatherings of the poor, the literate and illiterate; amongst scientist, artists, the extraordinary and the ordinary, normal, abnormal, and exceptional.

In the 1600’s there was a breach in the form of worship in the Church in England, and this lead to a form of worship which does not include a true changing of bread and wine into God. In other places and times the same thing occurred, so that there was created a false form of religion which still called itself Christian, but was not and is not because it does not at any time or in any form contain the true Sacrifice of the Last Supper and of Calvary. It does not contain the changing of bread and wine into the body and blood of Christ, but substitutes for that, bread and wine or grape juice as representing Christ.

Today, within the true Church, there are movements to introduce liturgical dance as being worship. Liturgical dance is not worship, for it has nothing to do with Transubstantiation or Transmutation, with changing bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Christ. In some places the Divine Liturgy or Mass has been changed from the concept of a sacrifice to the concept of a communal meal - and that communal meal, while it once had worship as one of its focuses, has lost that focus in favor of a semi-obligatory gathering.

With the de facto subversion of the worship of the Sacred Elements which maintained their physical appearance of bread and wine, has come the concept that reception of Holy Communion is a sign of membership or that one is a member of the Church. That concept of membership is quickly overshadowing the reality that the Sacred Elements of Holy Communion actually are the Body and Blood of Christ, and should only be received by persons who are in a state of Grace and who believe and follow the teachings of the Church, which are the Dogmatic proclamations of the Holy Spirit.

What actually is happening in some parts of the Church, is the destruction of belief in Dogma, not through confrontation with false dogma, but through degradation of the forms, practices, and traditions of worship.

It is very important to remember that how one worships, and the form of worship, heavily influence one’s beliefs. Forms of worship which do not conform to dogma, and which do not include dogmatic beliefs presented and taught in a clear and accurate manner, must lead to error in beliefs, error in dogma, and error in worship. The natural and necessary results of such errors in worship are a falling away from moral standards and practices, with a corresponding failure of social structures, anarchy in different forms and levels, and a loss of souls to hell.

Do what you can to preserve proper and traditional worship, and to oppose all forms of and practices related to worship, which will in any manner lessen the focus on worshiping God, especially those which lessen the worship of God in the Holy Sacrifice of the Eucharist. At the same time, do all within your ability to worship God, especially in the Holy Eucharistic Sacrifice, and to assist others to worship God in this manner, for this Gift, combined with the Sacramental Gifts of Absolution and of Baptism, are doors and producers of eternal life. Without them, there will be no water in the well of salvation.

BIBLE HISTORY FOR CHILDREN

27. Jesus is Scourged

AT that time Pontius Pilate was governor in Judea. The Jews led Jesus to him early in the morning to have Him tried. But Pilate knew that Jesus had been delivered by envy of the priests and Pharisees. He, therefore, wished to save Him from their hands. The priests, however, stirred up the people, and all cried out; "Crucify Him, crucify Him!"

2. Pilate said: "What evil hath He done? I find no cause of death in Him. I will, therefore, scourge Him, and let Him go." And Jesus was led away, stripped of His garments, tied to a pillar and scourged in a most cruel manner.

QUESTIONS

1. Why was Jesus led to Pilate?

What did Pilate wish to do?

2. What did Pilate say?

What did he order to be done to Jesus?

28. Jesus is Crowned With Thorns

AFTER Jesus had been scourged, the soldiers put an old purple garment about Him. They platted a crown of thorns, put it on His head, and placed a reed in His right hand. Then bowing the knee before Him they mocked Him, saying: "Hail, King of the Jews." Others spat on Him, and took the reed, and struck His head. At last they blindfolded Him and renewed all manner of insult and injury.

QUESTION

What did the soldiers do to Jesus after He had been scourged?

29. Jesus is Shown to the People and Condemned to Death

ONCE more Pilate endeavored to save Jesus. He brought Him out before the people. There the Savior stood with the crown of thorns on His head and wearing the purple garment. And Pilate said: "Behold the man !"

2. But the priests and Pharisees cried out: "Crucify Him, crucify Him!" Pilate answered: "I find no cause in Him." The Jews replied: "We have a law and according to that law He must die: for He said that He was the Son of God."

3. Now for the last time Pilate sought to release Jesus from their hands. But the Jews exclaimed: "If thou let this man go, thou canst be no friend of the emperor."

4. Then Pilate took water, washed his hands saying: "I am innocent of the blood of this just man. Look ye to it." They all cried out: "His blood be upon us and upon our children." Then Pilate delivered Jesus to the Jews to be crucified.

QUESTIONS

1. How was Jesus shown to the people?

2. What did the crowd cry out?

What did Pilate say?

3. What did Pilate for the last time seek to dot

4. What did Pilate say when he washed his hands? What did the Jews cry out?

The Orthodox - Basilian Catechism

Q. 287. How can we know what sins are considered mortal?

A. We can know what sins are considered mortal from Holy Scripture; from the teaching of the Church, and from the writings of the Fathers and Doctors of the Church.

Q. 288. Why is it wrong to judge others guilty of sin?

A. It is wrong to judge others guilty of sin because we cannot know for certain that their sinful act was committed with sufficient reflection and full consent of the will.

Q. 289. What sin does he commit who without sufficient reason believes another guilty of sin?

A. He who without sufficient reason believes another guilty of sin commits a sin of rash judgment.

Q. 290. What is venial sin?

A. Venial sin is a slight offense against the law of God in matters of less importance, or in matters of great importance it is an offense committed without sufficient reflection or full consent of the will.

Q. 291. Can we always distinguish venial from mortal sin?

A. We cannot always distinguish venial from mortal sin, and in such cases we must leave the decision to our confessor.

Q. 292. Can slight offenses ever become mortal sins?

A. Slight offenses can become mortal sins if we commit them through defiant contempt for God or His law; and also when they are followed by very evil consequences, which we foresee in committing them.

Q. 293. Which are the effects of venial sin?

A. The effects of venial sin are the lessening of the love of God in our heart, the making us less worthy of His help, and the weakening of the power to resist mortal sin.

Q. 294. How can we know a thought, word or deed to be sinful?

A. We can know a thought, word or deed to be sinful if it, or the neglect of it, is forbidden by any law of God or of His Church, or if it is opposed to any supernatural virtue.

Q. 295. Which are the chief sources of sin?

A. The chief sources of sin are seven: Pride, Covetousness, Lust, Anger, Gluttony, Envy, and Sloth; and they are commonly called capital sins or the seven deadly sins. Some people call Gossip the eighth deadly sin, and though it is a sin, people usually gossip out of envy.

Q. 296. What is pride?

A. Pride is an excessive love of our own ability; so that we would rather sinfully disobey than humble ourselves.

Q. 297. What effect has pride on our souls?

A. Pride begets in our souls sinful ambition, vainglory, presumption and hypocrisy.

Q. 298. What is covetousness?

A. Covetousness is an excessive desire for worldly things.

Q. 299. What effect has covetousness on our souls?

Q. 300. What is lust?

A. Lust is an excessive desire for the sinful pleasures forbidden by the Sixth Commandment.

Q. 301. What effect has lust on our souls?

A. Lust begets in our souls a distaste for holy things, a perverted conscience, a hatred for God, and it very frequently leads to a complete loss of faith.

Q. 302. What is anger?

A. Anger is an excessive emotion of the mind excited against any person or thing, or it is an excessive desire for revenge.

Q. 303. What effect has anger on our soul?

A. Anger begets in our souls impatience, hatred, irreverence, and too often the habit of cursing.

Q. 304. What is gluttony?

A. Gluttony is an excessive desire for food or drink.

Q. 305. What kind of a sin is drunkenness?

A. Drunkenness is a sin of gluttony by which a person deprives himself of the use of his reason by the excessive taking of intoxicating drink.

Q. 306. Is drunkenness always a mortal sin?

A. Deliberate drunkenness is always a mortal sin if the person be completely deprived of the use of reason by it, but drunkenness that is not intended or desired may be excused from mortal sin.

Q. 307. What are the chief effects of habitua drunkenness?

A. Habitual drunkenness injures the body, weakens the mind, leads its victim into many vices and exposes him to the danger of dying in a state of mortal sin.

Q. 308. What three sins seem to cause most evil in the world?

A. Drunkenness, dishonesty and impurity seem to cause most evil in the world, and they are therefore to be carefully avoided at all times.

PRAYER KNOCKS, FASTING OBTAINS, MERCY RECEIVES
From a sermon by Saint Peter Chrysologus, bishop

Prayer knocks, fasting obtains, mercy receives. There are three things, my brethren, by which faith stands firm, devotion remains constant, and virtue endures. They are prayer, fasting and mercy. Prayer knocks at the door, fasting obtains, mercy receives. Prayer, mercy and fasting: these three are one, and they give life to each other.

Fasting is the soul of prayer, mercy is the lifeblood of fasting. Let no one try to separate them; they cannot be separated. If you have only one of them or not all together, you have nothing. So if you pray, fast; if you fast, show mercy; if you want your petition to be heard hear the petition of others. If you do not close your ear to others you open God's ear to yourself.

When you fast, see the fasting of others. If you want God to know that you are hungry, know that another is hungry. If you hope for mercy, show mercy. If you look for kindness, show kindness. If you want to receive, give. If you ask for yourself what you deny to others, your asking is a mockery.

Let this be the pattern for all men when they practice mercy: show mercy to others in the same way, with the same generosity, with the same promptness, as you want others to show mercy to you.

Therefore, let prayer, mercy and fasting be one single plea to God on our behalf, one speech in our defense, a threefold united prayer in our favor.

Let us use fasting to make up for what we have lost by despising others. Let us offer our souls in sacrifice by means of fasting. There is nothing more pleasing that we can offer to God, as the psalmist said in prophecy: A sacrifice to God is a broken spirit; God does not despise a bruised and humbled heart.

Offer your soul to God, make him an oblation of your fasting, so that your soul may be a pure offering, a holy sacrifice, a living victim, remaining your own and at the same time made over to God. Whoever fails to give this to God will not be excused, for if you are to give him yourself you are never without the means of giving.

To make these acceptable, mercy must be added. Fasting bears no fruit unless it is watered by mercy. Fasting dries up when mercy dries up. Mercy is to fasting as rain is to the earth. However much you may cultivate your heart, clear the soil of your nature, root out vices, sow virtues, if you do not release the springs of mercy, your fasting will bear no fruit.

When you fast, if your mercy is thin your harvest will be thin; when you fast, what you pour out in mercy overflows into your barn. Therefore, do not lose by saving, but gather in by scattering. Give to the poor, and you give to yourself. You will not be allowed to keep what you have refused to give to others.

ABORTIONISTS ARE TERRORIST

And all who do not oppose abortion, support terrorism.

A candidate’s abortion position is indicative of their interest in you.

Abortionist are nothing more than terrorist who attack the least powerful human beings, the least able to defend themselves - unborn babies.

No one can distinguish any differences between abortionists and terrorist, for there are none. It may seem that terrorists function from an extreme religious position, but in truth they function from the same basis as Adolph Hitler, Stalin, Napoleon, and every other person and group of that ilk - the wish to control everyone and everything in the world and to torture and destroy everyone and everything which does not conform to the terrorist’s wishes.

Would you vote for terrorist leader Osama bin Laden for any office? If your answer is yes, then you either wish to force everyone in the whole world to do what you want to do and to act the way you want them to act - you wish to enslave everyone; or/and you have a severe mental disfunction.

Likewise, supporting abortionists, abortions, or the right to have an abortion is supporting terrorist. Supporting the right to kill an unborn baby is the same as supporting Osama bin Laden’s right to fly airplanes into the New York World Trade Center and the Pentagon and to kill thousands of people.

Supporting a pro-choice position is the same as supporting the right of someone else to kill you without cause or reason; for once is granted in once instance, the right to kill without cause by the one being killed, then the right to kill in other cases without cause, will follow.

Because of this, a candidate’s position on abortion can be instrumental in determining that candidate’s general philosophy and general interests, as well as their concern for persons in your specific situation.

In the normal life situation, all those who support abortion will one day become old - unless some group makes it legal to kill people once they attain a certain age.

So: Why vote for a terrorist?

THE DA VINCI CODE IS BASED ON A HOAX
And, of course, is fraud, not fact.

The Da Vinci Code, by Dan Brown, basically states that Jesus Christ married Mary Magdalene, that they had children, that the Holy Grail is their children and descendants, and that all of this has been kept a deep, dark, secret, now revealed in this book.

The truth is simple. Much of what The Da Vinci Code, presents as fact, was presented as fact in a book entitled, Holy Blood, Holy Grail, published in the 1980’s. Both books rely on documents discovered in the Bibliotheque Nationale de France. Those documents have been exposed as a hoax perpetrated by one man.

This is very old news is very well documented.

For the victims of my sins, and those who have hurt me;

For the conversion of [your country - and suggest adding the United States, the former Soviet Union and its satellites, Russia, China and the East], and those governed by Satan, and those not governed by You, and of the whole world, to You, God, and to Orthodox and Catholic Christianity;

For [name the leaders of your country, area, and officials in troubled areas], and all the world leaders, that they will try to do good and for the good which they seem to be trying to do;

In thanksgiving for my Guardian Angels;

For those who do not believe in you, and for those who do not care whether or not you exist.

That you will give me your gifts, especially those of Faith, Hope, and Love, of purity, honesty and truthfulness, tactfulness, patience, Fear of the Lord, piety, empathy, seeing, knowing, hearing, of speaking, wisdom, understanding, and gentleness, of holiness and repentance, and of good health, that all your gifts to me will grow stronger and clearer, that I will know how to use the gifts for the benefit of those to whom the gifts apply; that I will so use the gifts, that they will accept the benefit of the gifts; that the pain and sorrow I feel from the gifts will be bearable and that the joy and happiness I derive from the gifts will continue and grow;

That any suffering I experience will be united with Christ;

That the peace and joy and happiness and the Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ will permeate our entire beings, filling every portion of our daily lives;

That our Heart and Strength, the Holy Spirit will descend upon us and remain with us forever, fulfilling and completing us in You, binding us to and with You for all eternity, helping us to know and follow Your will; correcting our faults;

That our Father will continue to guide us and to protect us, gently teaching us in all things, protecting us from harshness and adversity beyond our ability to endure, and never allowing us to be punished with harshness or severity beyond our ability to endure but primarily with gentleness and so as to learn, obey, and follow Him, and that He will Keep us His children and keep us from hell;

That we will receive our punishment in this world and not in the next.

For whatever we need, and whatever You wish.

God, please help me love You.

WWII MEMORIAL

The World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., honors the American men and women who participated in the War, particularly and especially those who were members of the Armed Forces of the United States of America. Its purpose is to honor. It was not built to provide an history lesson, or to teach. History is related in small part for the purpose of informing why the honor is deserved and bestowed.

Yet newspaper columnist David Broder, a man (?) (politically correct term would be “person”) read by millions, states the memorial is flawed because nowhere in the memorial is it stated that WWII was an extension of WWI (T-P, May 31, 2004 A.D., p. B-5). [Of course, he also uses his column as an opportunity to attack the current war response of the United States against those who attacked the USA on 11 September and for the ten years prior, and who would again attack the USA and all freedom loving people.]

Mr. Broder lies in his column. The lie is not that the Memorial does state that WWII was an extension of WWI - for it does not. The lie is implying there was any purpose, intent, obligation, or need to state such, or that there was any purpose, intent, obligation, or need to do anything other than honor those Americans who participated in World War II.

This form of lying is an effective means of misleading individuals and the masses - and they fall for it almost every time it is used. It is the same as asking, “When did you stop beating your wife?” when there is nothing to establish wife beating occurred.

UNION WITH GOD IS THE ONLY AND THE EVERYTHING

The Holy Spirit constantly battles for our salvation.

You will find holiness and union with God in prayer, but you will not find them in money, power, or worldly things and matters. You will attain union with God in seeking God’s spirituality, but you will not attain union with God in seeking the things which this world has to offer.

Human nature, fallen since the fall of Adam and Eve, is capable of experiencing permanence only in the spiritual realm, for the spiritual realm is the only part of fallen human nature which has permanence. The physical realm of fallen human nature corrupts, weakens, and dies. It has no permanence. That is why the gifts of the Holy Spirit are spiritual gifts, for their purpose is to assist your attaining permanent happiness, not temporary enjoyment. That is why the physical aspect of our human nature must be bought under the control of the spiritual aspect, for the things which the physical aspect seeks are temporary and pass with the end of life; while the things which the spiritual aspect seeks are permanent and do not end.

It requires an entire human, physical and spiritual, to do anything. One aspect without the other can do nothing. For that reason, once the body dies, the spirit can do nothing on its own to change its status. So if a person is in a state of grace when the body dies, the spirit remains in a state of grace and will never stop being in a state of some form of union with God. Likewise, if a person dies and is not in a state of grace, that person is not in some form of union with God and we know of no means by which it can ever attain union with God.

Because He is the primary Person of the Blessed Trinity who is with us at this stage of human history, the Holy Spirit should be the most active part of our lives. We should seek Him by doing our best to make ourselves conform to what God has said He desires, and to avoid that which God has said is not pleasing to Him. In so doing we learn to desire the goodness of God so that anything else becomes insignificant.

We must be careful in focusing on our needs, so that we do not focus solely on spiritual needs to the determent of physical needs, nor focus on physical needs to the determent of spiritual needs. We must focus on our entire selves, but always with the spiritual needs having primacy.

Some will advise you that you can not pay proper attention to your spiritual life if you are hungry, or if you are afflicted with injustice. We do have valid physical needs to which we must attend. We have to eat. Clothing is nice to ward off heat, cold, insects, and things which damage the skin. Shelter is useful to keep out the elements. Stoves are handy for preparing food, and dishwashers and clothes washers are handy for cleaning up. A little extra money in reserve is useful for times when we have less ability or opportunity to obtain the things we need. And since we are human, the physical realm of our nature will continue to make justification for physical things: for a few extra modes of transportation, and a couple of extra palaces, and a few hundred servants, and things to occupy our leisure, so that we do not want to even begin to consider our spiritual needs.

When we advise that one must focus on our entire selves, but always with the spiritual needs having primacy, the operative portion is the primacy of the spiritual needs. One can at times become so wrapped up in spiritual matters that they forget to eat, or neglect their family - and that is improper. But it is more likely that a person will become too focused on material matters to the neglect of their spiritual needs, and thereby discard eternal happiness.

But by seeking and accepting the assistance of the Holy Spirit, and acquiring as much of the Holy Spirit as it is possible for us at every instant in time, we will no longer live for our physical needs and desires, but will live instead for God. And in living for God, we will receive the unimaginable.

Acts 2:1-11; John 14:23-31

THE THEOLOGICAL
PRINCIPLE
OF
PRIMACY OF CONSCIENCE
DOES NOT ALLOW SIN

There is a theological principle that in effect states if an individual’s conscience dictates a course which is contrary to dogma, that following that which is dictated by one’s conscience is moral for that individual.

This is sometimes referred to as the primary of conscience or obedience to conscience.

Today, primacy of conscience is being used to justify every aberration imaginable, from abortion, to same gender relations which attempt to imitate that which is reserved to the state of matrimony between one man and one woman, and even reception of the Sacred Eucharist by Satanists, and the worship of Satan.

Primacy of conscience requires an INFORMED conscience; a conscience developed by study of the matter at question, including, especially, the writings and teachings of the Church and dogmatic statements by the Church on the matter and related or similar matters.

It is common practice today to mis-state facts, teachings, principles, situations, and especially purpose, in virtually every matter and situation. Proponents of their own favorite sins commonly use this practice as part of their attempt to justify and to obtain popular or public approval of those favorite sins. These mis- statements and oblique approaches to sin and sin situations are then combined with the principle of primacy of conscience, to support the commission of those favorite sins.

Such practices, however, are without effect. Such practices and procedures do not alleviate the sinner from either the sin or the responsibility and consequences of the sin. This is because the individual is not attempting to ascertain what is moral and what is immoral so that immorality may be avoided and morality obtained and followed. Rather, the individual is attempting to justify sin and the commission of sin. Such individuals are therefore lying; and no amount of obtuse discussion or argument can hide their true intentions from God.

An informed conscience is necessary to follow God’s will. When one has real and honest doubt about proclaimed dogma, and there is no explicit and clear Biblical reference to follow, then the principle of primacy of an informed conscience may possibly be valid. But only may, and only possibly.

Very few dogmatic matters do not have the support of being clearly stated in the Bible, or of being easily derived from and the logical result of that which is clearly stated in the Bible.

The sins which are most frequently argued as not being sins under the pretext of being a matter of conscience, are sins which are expressly stated as being sins and as being prohibited. Homosexuality, Lesbianism, extra-marital sexual relations, and abortion, are the sins which are most commonly supported as being activities which fall under the umbrella of being a matter of conscience, and therefore permissible and actually good. Yet each of these is Biblically, expressly prohibited and declared sin.

In these matters there therefore can be no protection from sin as a matter of conscience.

It may be possible for one to be unaware that such sins are sins. It may be possible that one may not comprehend that such sins are sins. It may be possible that one may not realize that such sins are sins. And it may be possible that one can not change their awareness, comprehension, and realization. But it is very unlikely that one who has the capacity to informedly argue that such sins are not sins because those activities are, for the proponent, a matter of conscience, is invulnerably ignorant or intellectually deficient or defective. The very argument indicates a mental capacity and comprehension which would be expected to preclude protection under both invulnerable ignorance or by utilization of the very argument of primacy of conscience.

But the most important fact is, that no matter how hard one attempts to fool God, no-one can fool God. Even if one were to obtain human approval for their favorite sin, it would remain a sin for God is the One who decides what is sin and what is good, and He has made His decisions regarding what is sin and what is good, and He never changes.

Truth and honesty are requisite for primacy of conscience to apply. Truth and honesty not just in the presentation of the matter, but in the research and in the attempt to comprehend and follow the Will of God.

Attempting to support sin through primacy of conscience is ineffective because it is an attempt to support sin.

Primacy of conscience is basically a protection similar to invulnerable ignorance, and both are personal, effective on an individual basis and not applicable as generalizations.

So, do not fool yourself, for if you do, you will just go to Hell.

WHY DO YOUR BEST?

It is good, right, and fitting, that we always, and everywhere, do our best in everything. At different times and days, our best may vary, so that if we do one thing at 10:00 O’Clock, and the same thing at 11:00 O’Clock, what we do at 11 may be of better quality than that which we do at 10. That is fine, provided we did our best each time.

But why should we always do our best - not just try to do, but actually do it? Because the power of God is constantly at work within us, and the closer we draw to God, the more we grow in perfection in ourselves and our work. If we then acknowledge the power of God is that which has made us and our work more perfect, then we proclaim the truth - and our former imperfections show the power of God for He has made our former faults into virtues.

If we do not do our best, then we are not fully accepting God’s gift towards our individual perfection in Him.

Likewise, if we claim sole or even major credit for having done our best, the we are failing to acknowledge that it was God who enabled us to do our best, and we are claiming a place to which we have no right. Once we make claim to this glory, the that which we do will fall in quality, for God will withdraw from us the ability to increasingly approach perfection.

You may think this has no application to you, for you do not seek to sit at the head of the table, you do not claim to consult with God at His planning table, you know you are not an important person, and all you wish is to have a decent life.

But this does apply to you.

It applies to you for everything you do is dependent on God. and the more you seek God’s assistance and guidance, the greater the degree of perfection you are able to attain in everything. Everything means everything. It includes not just your work or things you think are important, but also things like brushing you teeth, driving a car, and even things such as just sitting, and sleeping.

When we seek God’s assistance in everything, it opens our eyes to areas of need. The generation which is now forty, fifty, and sixty years of age, failed to seek God’s assistance everything, and because it failed to seek God’s assistance in everything it raised a generation which is deficient in knowledge of God and things of God, and in comprehension of morality beyond that which is planted in the heart of every person. The older generation did not perceive the need to educate its children in things of God, and therefore it has Roman Catholic children who can not pray the rosary, Orthodox children who think praising the Blessed Ever Virgin Mary is making her God and that she was not a virgin after the birth of our Lord - that she had other children. We have Greeks teenagers and young adults who believe premarital sexual intercourse is not a sin, and American teens and young adults who do not care if it is a sin. We even have people who call themselves Christians who do believe Jesus Christ is our Savior but who do not believe He is God - which is a basic contradiction.

Because the older generation did not seek God’s help in everything, we have a younger generation which is well educated in many ways, but which is ignorant of spiritual matters and spiritual matters are the only matters which have lasting importance. We have a younger generation which does not think it commits sin, and which does not concern itself about spiritual matters - especially if those spiritual matters interfere with something else the individual desires to do.

To the older generation we say, correct your mistakes and errors - and start with asking God’s forgiveness and His help in correcting the ignorance you have foisted upon your children.

To the younger generation we say, start learning all the spiritual and moral things your parents and their generation failed to properly teach to you, so that you will know, comply with, and follow that which is good, the best, and of God; and so that you can and will teach these things to you children - but first ask God’s help in the learning and in the teaching.

This will not make you famous to the world, but it you make you famous to God

MUCH ROOM FOR
IMPROVEMENT, AND GOOD MATERIAL WITH WHICH TO WORK

Americans have a great need for moral improvement, but most Americans are very good material with which to work in making moral improvements.

Most Americans love God, but with not their whole heart, soul, and mind. Even fewer Americans want to love God with their whole heart, soul, and mind, but that is not out of basic evil or avoidance of God; it is mainly out of ignorance, out of lack of realization of the importance of making God their focus, out of not having been taught or learned of God’s real importance to us. Americans’ greatest fault in not being as holy a people they should be is in lack of paying attention to God, in not thinking about God as much as they should.

But as a nation Americans have basically good intentions and inclinations. And as a nation Americans can be lead to the Orthodox Church, to the True Church, to Christ, if Orthodox people simply practice their Faith, their religion.

When one of these basically decent Americans who thinks he is a Christian but really is a semi-Pagan sees you in your daily life, what does he see? Does he see someone who is grumpy and grouchy? Does he see someone who is constantly sarcastic and bitter? Does he see someone who is trying to obtain something to which he is not entitled, or without working for it?

Does he see someone who attends Sunday Divine Liturgy regularly, or someone who attends only when it is convenient? Does he see someone who follows The Way taught by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, or someone who just gives God’s teachings lip service? Does he see someone who prays regularly, or someone who really does not know how to pray, or even worse, who only prays “selectively”? Does he see a “Bible Toting Believe It May Way Or You Are Damned to Hell” bigot, or does he see someone who leaves damning people to hell to God’s application of His Justice, and who cautions and gives warning out of concern for the sinner’s soul?

Does he see someone basically happy and at peace? Does he see a Christian?

What does he see?

What does the average American see when he sees you? When he sees you and your spouse and your children all together? You and your parents together? You and your siblings together? What does he see?

The average American sees an organization like the National Organization of Women (NOW), which has fewer than 1% of American women as members, and which at a recent annual national convention had fewer than 700 people in attendance, dictate a government policy which allows killing unborn babies whenever the mother wishes in any manner the mother desires.

The average American sees evil people promoting their evil programs with great vigor and determination.

But what does he see those who are part of Christ Body doing?

He does not have to see you shouting about Christ from every street corner and from the top of every building, though it would be good if you did so in a respectful manner. He does not have to see you possessing the more dramatic gifts of the Holy Spirit, or doing anything dramatic.

He just has to see you practicing your Faith, and growing in God as a result of your practicing your Faith. He has to see you knowing your Faith, and being brave enough to openly and consistently oppose Evil and openly and consistently promote Good. He has to see you placing morality before your own personal interests when you vote and in who you openly support, so that Evil organizations like NOW will meet opposition sufficiently strong to overturn the laws and court decisions which allow a mother to kill her babies whenever and however she wishes. He has to see you going out of your way to assist someone in need, particularly someone who is a stranger to you - which is what Christ did and does. He has to see you acting with patience with someone who is troubled, and acting with firmness with someone who is manipulative - which is what Christ did and does.

He has to see you actually pray and worship during Divine Liturgy, and has to see you anticipate with joy the opportunity to participate in Divine Liturgy, and not you acting as though it were a drudging duty which you are obligated to perform or to which you are dragged against you will.

If the average American sees in you, that which is supposed to be present in you, considering the fact that you are part of the True Church, part of the Body of Christ, then he will influenced to become holy, or more holy, and you will become holy, or more holy, yourself.

God always sees you. When God sees you, what does He see?

THANKING GOD IN LOVE
Giving thanks always for all things, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to God and the Father

We have so much to be thankful for it is impossible for us to begin to comprehend, and we very often do not - do not comprehend and do not thank.

When you do not obtain, secure, or otherwise receive that which is your temporal focus, you may think you do not have much for which to be thankful, but you do. You are a member of the True Church, which means you are part of the Body of Christ, although it is the training and prove worthy portion of the Body of Christ. You have seen the true light, have received the heavenly spirit, have found the true faith, and worship the undivided Trinity that has saved us. You just have to work with that salvation so-as-to attain it.

And you have the most unique Brother, Jesus Christ, who is also your Lord and God. He is also your most just Judge, and will send you with the goats to Hell if you reject Him and His Way, but He will always love you even if you force Him to send you to Hell. What your Heavenly Brother really wants is for you to love Him - to love Him more than you love the things, pleasures, and powers of the temporary world, and therein to follow The Way He has taught.

He even has made it possible for you and Him to become one with each other, not just spiritually, but physically, in the Sacred Mysteries of Holy Communion.

He has even made it possible for you to clean your soul, to give it life if it is dead, so it is both worthy and able to receive Him when he physically unites with you as your guest. And He has made this cleansing so simple, so easy - you have but to detest your sins, be sorry for them at least because you fear Hell though it would be better if you were sorry for them because of your love for our Lord, confess them with the intention to sin no more, and receive absolution from the Priest. Then your house is ready to receive the best Guest it has ever had; the Guest who brings for you everything you need, and everything you could ever want.

Think of the joy and anticipation with which man and woman marry. Then think of how much greater is that joy and anticipation, and how much greater they are fulfilled, when man and woman marry in Christ.

Think of the joy and anticipation with which friends meet. Then think of how much greater is that joy and anticipation, and how much greater they are fulfilled, when friends meet in Christ.

Think of the relief you experience when a major problem is resolved. Then think of the relief you experience when you have received absolution through Sacramental Confession, when the only real problem you have is thus resolved.

God is really so good to us that we can not begin to imagine how good to us He really is. He has provided each of us to ourselves through His creation of each of us. He has provided all that is necessary for our spiritual needs - which means He has provided all which is really needed by each person. He also works with us in our pursuit of our needs and desires in this temporary world, assisting each of us as we work with Him in perfecting our eternal salvation through our temporary life. As long as we have eternity as our focus, we can work through the setbacks and disappointments of this temporary world, and also spiritually survive our successes in this temporary world.

All this and more than we can begin to imagine, God does for us. He does it because He loves us.

And there is something which you, and only you, can do for God. You can give Him something He really wants, but can not obtain for Himself even though He is omnipotent. You can give Him your love.

FAITHFULNESS TO THE KING REQUIRES FAITHFULNESS TO THE TRUTH

If you do not believe Jesus Christ is God, Lord and Savior, and if you do not follow the Way taught by Him, you can not be a Christian. Christians can not dilute or water down the Divine Truth which we follow as Dogma, nor can Christians accept any other religion as being good in any measure - except that some other religions do teach some good things, but in the main they teach error and therefore are unacceptable.

There is a great movement towards honoring other religions, especially those which are monotheistic. There also is a great movement towards honoring Christian religions which are not part of The Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. We hear and read much about toleration of other faiths.

When something is tolerated it is endured. Toleration is putting up with something. When something is tolerated, it has an evil effect yet we allow or suffer it to be, exist, or be done, without prohibition, hindrance, or contradiction. Sometimes toleration may be seen to be good, such as when we express that we tolerate or allow the evil of the pain of an inoculation for the purpose of receiving the benefit of being made immune to some disease. But in such situations, the activity is good, and whatever is evil actually only appears to be evil. Thus, again using an inoculation as an example, we really do not tolerate the inoculation which is the action which we allow; nor do we tolerate the discomfort of receiving an injection with a hypodermic needle. We accept the necessity for experiencing discomfort.

We tolerate a mosquito biting us, until we can slap it dead. That is how toleration is supposed to work.

We should neither tolerate nor respect false religions, for to do either is to give them that to which they are not entitled. We should only respect the one true religion, that founded by our King, Jesus Christ; the one religion of the humanly fragmented Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. However, in the same breath, we must also respect each person’s free will, and each person’s right to follow a false religion, for it is in the exercise of free will that humans exercise that which most of all makes them in the image and likeness of God. We must also defend each person’s right to belong to what ever religion he wishes, even if it is a false religion, for if we deny a person the right to practice what ever religion he wishes, we deny him the exercise of his God given free will.

We do have the right, even the obligation, to prevent anyone from practicing the tenants of a religion which cause harm. Therefore, we have the right and the obligation to incapacitate those who would cause harm in the name of their religion; we must stop them.

Respecting another person’s right to practice a false and erroneous religion means we respect the person. It does not mean we respect the religion. We can and should attempt to be on best terms with those of other faiths; to work with them and even to financially support some of their efforts. We should even respect their places of worship and when in their places of worship we should follow what ever customs are appropriate - and if we can not, then we should not enter their places of worship. We should respect their places of worship out of respect for the people who worship there.

But that does not mean we should respect their religion. It does not mean we should refrain from attacking their erroneous religion. We should attack the errors of their religion with fervor just as we must oppose anything which may lead anyone astray from The Way taught by our King Jesus Christ. And while we attack those erroneous religions, we must also be careful to respect the members of those erroneous religions. That is a difficult task.

Our Lord did not teach error, nor did He allow error to exist in His Church. Many people do not like having to follow what our King requires of us, especially in these modern times when we have a multitude of scientific and technological advances which can be and are used for immoral purposes which please and comfort the non-spiritual aspects of the human being. But no human being is King of all; only the God- Man Jesus Christ is the King Of All, and He is so in the Magesterium of the Father.

The King will not allow error into His Eternal Kingdom, even though it may exist in that part of His Kingdom which is on Earth. We should therefore strive to correct dogmatic error, so that those who practice and believe these errors will have the opportunity to discard their errors and to accept, believe, and practice the truth.

This practice of The Way should begin with ourselves, and in our homes with our families. We must take the time to encourage our children to proper prayer and worship, and train and educate our children in the true Faith, the True Church, founded by our King. And even though we may have been doing this for almost as long as we have been alive, we must continue doing this for as long as there is opposition to the Truth of The Blessed Trinity.

Current Active Mailing Lists Originating From BasilNet
ReuNet HIOC BBS
The Society of Clerks Secular of Saint Basil - The Basilian Fathers

Each ML has its own rules, which are posted in the ML on a regular basis. Abbreviated commands are also in the signature of each ML message sent via e-mail. You must have permission from the appropriate ML administrator to gate a ML.

PRAYERS

Prayer requests operates under a simple premise. When we pray for each other we fulfill a portion of our Christian duty. Prayers for the living and for the dead are allowed and welcome. Those who make prayer requests agree to include the prayer requests of all who make them here. Prayer requests MUST be moral and for moral purposes . . . hopefully morality will not have to be defined at length (i.e.: use common sense).

Participants and subscribers agree to honor the moral prayer requests posted, and to pray for those intentions and persons for at least one week.

BIBLE-DAY

Every day we try to post a Chapter of one of the Books of the Bible on the ML for discussion. This began with Genesis, Chapter 1, and continued to the end of Genesis, and so on to the next Book. Discussion is not limited to the Chapter posted each day. We use the Douay-Rheims translation which, while it sometimes has editorial comments biased against the Orthodox Church, is a basically a good, non political translation.

SERMONS

A place to exchange sermons by Christians. POSTERS must be, and certify they are: male; duly ordained Priests, Deacons, Ministers, or seminarians of, a Christian Church, Jurisdiction, or Religion; that the Creed of the Council of Nicea is the Creed, or expresses the basic dogma, of the Church of which each participant is a member. Rabbi may participate and post. (Us Christians may learn something). ANYONE may RECEIVE the ML.

When you post in this ML you must provide your church/religious affiliation in the post.

STUDIES

The STUDIES ML is a list which studies Orthodoxy and the Theology/Dogma of the Holy Catholic Apostolic Church. We attempt to have the text of what ever book/publication we are using posted in pertinent parts during the discussions. This is a slow moving ML, primarily because most people do not wish to or have the time to or are not inclined to read and study as is required for participation in a ML such as this. However, for those who do, it is well worth the effort.

ONE-BODY

This is a mailing list designed to promote and further reunification of the Holy Orthodox Catholic and Apostolic Church with the Holy Roman Catholic and Apostolic Church and all other Jurisdictions of the Body of Christ; and to bring each and every human being into union with Christ Jesus our Lord. Activity - very light.

REU_PUB

This ML sends REUNION (publication) to its subscribers, without the pictures and graphics which are in the paper publication. The ML does support discussion, and discussions encouraged. Mainly used for those who desire to receive the Newsletter but do not have access to the WWW (each issue is available on-line), those for whom telephone access to the BBS part of the system is not readily available, and those to whom we can not send a free print copy. You never have to wonder if your charitable donations are being properly used. You can SEE their use.
Archbishop Andres has been the one of the leaders of those who seek moral treatment of the Mayan People in Guatemala, even leading a march seeking promise the Mayans will no longer be killed at whim. For this Guatemalans call him "The Martin Luther King of Guatemala".

RETREATS:

Holy Innocents hosts a retreat on the first Monday of each month, at St. Mary Magdalene. This is an "open" retreat, without the 'rule of silence'. Grounds open at 9 AM, Divine Liturgy is at 11:15 AM, grounds close between 1 PM and 4 PM. Bring your own food, though chicken noodle soup and coffee are provided. Reservations REQUIRED by prior Wednesday.

St. Mary Magdalene is primarily a retreat house. Anyone wishing to conduct or participate in a one day retreat for a group or an individual should call either St. Mary Magdalene, Holy Innocents to schedule. We encourage everyone to go on a retreat at least once each year - more often if possible. Talks on various special subjects can be arranged for groups in retreat, and those on private retreat will be left alone as they desire. Overnight retreats are available with "dormitory style" facilities.

Directions: Take I-10 East through Slidell. Cross the Louisiana - Mississippi State line; pass up the truck scales and take the first exit after the truck scales. This is the scenic route to the beaches. (Some people call this the Hwy. 90 exit.) Stay on the highway, pass (and curse) the gambling casino exit until you arrive in Waveland (about 17 miles from I-10). Turn right at the first traffic light, go down the road towards the beach, cross over the rail road tracks and turn left on Central Ave. which is the first road over the rail road tracks. Stay on central until you reach Coleman Ave., which is located at the first stop sign you will come to. Turn right on Coleman and you will see the beach road ahead. Turn right on Beach Road., go two blocks to Hartsie, turn right on Hartsie, travel 550 feet until the bend in the road. St. Mary Magdalene is on the left.

Or, I-10 to Miss Hwy 603 (43), also known as Kiln Rd.., then South on Hwy 603 (43) (Kiln Rd.), cross over U. S. Hwy. 90 [Hwy 603 (43) changes its name to Nicholson Ave.], to the Beach, right on Beach Road, pass Coleman Ave., and proceed as above.

DIVINE LITURGY "MASS" CARDS

These 4 1/4" by 5 1/2 " (folded) Icon cards feature the above Icons, and open to reveal prayer intentions for the living and for those who have Fallen Asleep in The Lord.

ICON # 4 ICON # 7 ICON # 11 ICON # 19 ICON # 26

For those who have Fallen Asleep in The Lord, Icon # 19 graces the cover, with the following text (reduced here to fit in this column) inside:

General Intentions For the Living, for weddings, illnesses, general need, and for the sake of prayer itself, etc., cards, have Icons nos. 4, 7, 11, and 26. All the Icons are full color printed cards.

The text on the inside of the cards for the living is given above, again reduced here to fit inside the column.

These cards are very beautiful, light gray or bamboo in color, but they are only a product - something to induce you to make a donation which we use to support the various works we provide, including publication of REUNION.

To have a person included in our prayers and at Divine Liturgy, send us a note, or fill out the form in the right column of this page and send it to us. There is no fee for the prayers and Liturgies, that would be Simony.

Like Monasteries which obtain donations for their Icons, or sell Icons and other items, the donations we receive from these cards are of great use to us. Your help is always appreciated.

If you wish someone to be included in our payer and Divine Liturgy intentions, please just fill in the form below and send it to us - but do not send any money. Prayers are free, the cards cost money.
